The Soft Pretzel Cutter was designed by an Amish family who sold pretzels at a concession stand during a large Amish event. Their famous hot pretzels had more demand than they could produce.
The old fashion way of rolling the dough into rolls and then shaping those out into the pretzel shape took hard work and many hours.
After many years of doing this, they came up with the idea to make a large cookie cutter in the shape of a pretzel. Returning to the show they discovered their labor was cut in half and they were able to produce and sell over 1000 pretzels during the three-day event when normally they could only sell 500.
The Soft Pretzel Cutter is easy to use. Simply roll out the dough until it is around 5/8” thick and place the cutter on top pushing down firmly and then twisting slightly back and forth before lifting up. The twisting motion helps separate the edges so that the excess dough can be lifted up.
Use plenty of flour in the process so that the dough doesn’t stick to the cutting board and the rolling pin. Spray the cutter with pan spray frequently and you will master the cutter very quickly.
The shaped pretzels are dipped into a water mixer of baking soda and then placed on a greased cooking sheet to bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
The cutter comes with a pretzel dough recipe using flour, brown sugar, yeast and warm water. Using 7 cups of flour the recipe netted 16 pretzels. The recipe is easy to adapt to add ingredients in the mix.
